Description

Rough-sawn panels give baby birds a footing as they climb out of the nest. Slits at the top of the sides and corners of the floor ensure proper air exchange. The bottom slits also allow proper drainage. No paints or stains are used on this box, so in time the pine will weather to a gray that blends in well with natural surroundings. 7-1/2" x 9-1/4" x 17-1/2" high.

Features

Constructed ideally for hairy, red-headed, and red-bellied woodpeckers. These birds are one of the few woodpeckers that live in a man-made box

Comes with wood chips and a slate predator guard that keeps the predators out & discourages hole enlargement

Constructed of 1" thick kiln-dried Eastern white pine for excellent insulation

Resides throughout the U.S. and Canada, and north to Alaska. Lives in or at the edge of open woods, preferring deciduous forests

    Dimensions: 17-1/2"h x 7-1/2"w x 9-3/4"d

Put it up this spring and filled it halfway with wood shavings, and birds instantly were checking it out. Our resident woodpecker did not take it, but some sparrows took it over. Was quite hilarious to watch them try to carry in brittle sticks too big for the opening. They did finally get their nest setup.Very well made with thoughtful details. Put it up today as we've had a downy woodpecker trying to destroy our wren houses. So far, one has show keen interest.Fast shipping. Well made. Thanks. The Birdhouse is beautiful but lacks craftsmanship. The top came off as I was installing it. I had to go over the entire box to make sure it was secure to hang. For the price the joints should have been glued. Very disappointed. We nest blue birds but saw woodpeckers trying to take over the bluebird house, pecking to make the hole larger so bought this put it up and half filled the nest with the chips. Low and behold within 2 days they were nesting for about 2 weeks so I know our neighborhood now has another bug eater saving our trees.I originally bought this birdhouse because I had a couple woodpeckers come to my feeder from time to time. Within days after I installed it on a pine tree facing west, I had tenants. Much to my surprise, they were bluebirds. I had heard that they were around but had never actually seen one. To make a long story short, I've had three or four bluebird fledges and now the red bellied woodpeckers have moved in. Recently I've seen the bluebirds return as well, but the woodpeckers have laid claim to the birdhouse. This has been great, so I decided to order another one. The more the merrier when it comes to woodpeckers and bluebirds. If I have the same luck with this one I guess I'll have to order a third.Beautiful with attention to detail which is so impressive and important. Smells like fresh cut pine and it looks sturdy. My only dislike is the use of a screw to attach the side door that can swing open for cleaning. I’m used to seeing a nail that you can just pull out when needed. Hopefully the squirrels won’t do a home invasion on this box. Can’t wait to attach it to a 4 x 4 post with a metal baffle to keep predators away. Thank you to Coveside Conservation Products. I wonder what other nest boxes you make...I did not research wood peckers . I already had a nest of bluebirds. The bluebirds left because of new box .
